Male and Female Dragonriders are expected to know how to make their own flying gear, but at the start of their Weyrling Lessons they are given a uniform of the gear they are expected to wear. It is made of lined leather, a protection from the cold of between, and is usually a two-toned color. There is very little customization available for this gear unless a rider designs their own. Because High Reaches Weyr is pretty top of the line in its clothing styles, Flight Gear is often very stylish, and shows the wealth of the Weyr in its riders outfits. Both genders wear tight fitting hats that frame the face and tie beneath their chins.
Female Dragonriders
Female dragonriders are disapproved of in general, and have yet to be proven in live threadfall, but they are nonetheless provided with Flying Leathers just as their male brethren are. Long leather boots, lined-hide leggings, a tight fitting lined-hide shirt of the same material as the leggings and a thick leather vest of the same leather as their boots are provided along with dark hide gloves that allow nimble finger movement. Criss-crossing straps, and shoulder pads of the color of their dragon, or white if they prefer, are also provided, allowing for a place on the shoulders to show their rank knots. A wide belt around their waist attaches to the straps on their dragons. Women are expected to tie long hair into a clean looking bun and hide it beneath their hat during flight.
Male Dragonriders
Obviously the more favored riders, the male dragonrider's flight gear is styled a slight bit more ornately than their female counterparts. Their over vest of thick leather is dyed in a gradient of complimentary colors, with a slight design to it that gives off a faint shimmer in the sunlight. Their undershirts are also dyed dark, and are of very high quality, thick linen that is soft against the skin. The have the same gloves, boots and hide leggings as the women but their pants are looser fitting, especially around the crotch and thighs, and they are given a belt with special loops that hooks in the flight straps of their dragon's gear can attach to. Men's hair cannot be longer than their shoulders at the longest, and must also be tucked beneath their hat during flight or neatly pulled back when grounded.
